Abortion seems to be such a black and white area these days; no room for grey. Either you are for it, whole heartedly, or you are firmly against it and everyone who has every had one or considers it. Religion and politics get brought in, and it becomes a much bigger hot-button issue. People who even consider abortion are called murderers, and those that support them are called worse. People who have had abortions are scorned and looked down on. Those that chose life are given praise-even if they suck at parenting.
Can we just cut the crap?
From a Christian standpoint (and by now, you all know I am a Christian), abortion is spiritually, morally, and ethically wrong. Life begins at conceptions, therefore ending said life is considered murder, which is a sin, thus wrong in the eyes of God.
If you are considering abortion, I will sit and talk with you. I won’t judge you. If you have previously had an abortion and are upset, I will sit in the floor and cry with you and hold you until the pain stops. If you want information on why I believe God thinks abortion is wrong, even in the direst of times, I will gladly give you every bit of information I have. I won’t call you names; I won’t hurl insults at you; and I won’t lie. I do believe abortion is wrong. I also believe I sin every day, and it is only by the grace of God that I am saved. So while abortion is a serious topic and one not to be taken lightly, those that are hurling insults and calling for “justice’ need to take a look in the mirror. I believe Jesus would be the first one to stand beside these women and say, “Cast the first stone, ye who are without sin.’
I hate abortion. It is ugly, and hard, and scary, and no one prepares you for the aftermath of feelings that comes with it. I have seen it many times, first hand. You do have a choice, even when it seems you don’t. And again, I will be glad to talk to you about those choices. However, if you have already had an abortion, whether yesterday or 25 years ago….I will sit with you and talk, have coffee, cry, and most importantly-listen. Because, while I truly believe every life is a gift from God, I also believe every mercy and grace is His to give freely. And if He hadn’t given it to me, if He didn’t every singly day, I’d be damned to hell with the worst sinners there are.
Stop tearing people down and start building them up. Help them to see they are beautiful and loved by God and by others. Maybe then will abortion not seem such a likely option for some.
